Manchester United fans were forced to endure another tortuous 90 minutes of watching their side as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Danish outfit FC Midtjylland in the Europa League.
Boss Louis van Gaal has been under increasing pressure after recent results left the Red Devils six points adrift of the race for a top four finish in the Premier League, and now the Dutchman is likely to face even more questions after another farcical night.
Manchester United took the lead in the first half thanks to a scrappy goal from Memphis Depay – the Dutchman’s sixth of the season – but they only held their advantage for six minutes as Pione Sisto levelled things up for the home side on the stroke of half-time.
It was the Danish side who looked the most dangerous in the second half and they got their reward with 13 minutes to go as Paul Onuachu’s low strike flew beyond the grasp of Sergio Romero – who was a late replacement for the injured David de Gea.
The loss – and the all-round performance – felt like a new low for Van Gaal in an all-round disappointing season, and Manchester United fans didn’t hold back while venting their frustration on Twitter.
